New Delhi: Amidst the opposition’s de- mand of scrapping the Agniveer Sche- me, BJP-ruled states have come forward to provide reservation to Agniveers in state government jobs. PM Narendra Modi had earlier appealed to the state governments to devise ways to absorb the Agniveers after their retirement from the Army. Haryana was the first go- vernment to announce a 10% reserva- tion for Agniveers a week ago in police constable, mining guard, forest guard, jail warden and SPO posts.

A certain reservation facili- ty will be provided for them in UP police jobs, and it will be announced in a few da- ys,” Yogi said.
Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai made a similar announcement today in Raipur. “I am glad to inform that Chhattisgarh govt will recruit all the state Agniveers for the posts of police constables, forest guards
and prison guards… We will absorb them in state government service on priority,” he said.
Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav while lauding the Agniveer Scheme said, “Modi government has taken this decision so that the country can have a youthful and strong armed forces. On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we have decided that the state government will provide benefits of reservation to Ag- niveers in state police and armed forces.” Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami joined the other chief ministers in announcing reservation for Agniveers. “We will make provisions and bring an Act to give reser- vation to Agniveers in government servi- ces. We are working on this plan. We will make use of their skills and discipline in various government departments,” Dha- mi said in Dehradun.
